Nutcracker

It's that time of year again, that's right, Nutcracker! My daughter Katy is very fortunate to be dancing in Ballet Nebraska's version of The Nutcracker. She will be playing a baby lamb in the performance at Iowa Western Community College and will be a toy soldier in the performance at Omaha Music Hall all this weekend.

With this performance come several weekends of rehearsal which are under our belt but this week is a very busy week. Tech week! We travel to Iowa every day for rehearsals that last several hours and we are very lucky to be staying with family in Omaha so we don't have to commute from Lincoln every day.

I am gettting a lot of crafting done while Katy is at rehearsal. I'm working on scarves, hats and Katy's leg warmers. But Friday and Saturday I get to do what I love to do, be a stage mom! I'll be backstage with the girls getting them in their costume and on stage when it's their turn.
I am sad about missing our "other" daughter's first dance performance at UNL this Friday. Maryn is performing in two pieces at UNL's fall performance but thankfully Jason will be going to support her for all of us.

So I'm off to pack for our long weekend!

So very busy

I haven't blogged much just because I have been so busy! Katy is very busy with school work, piano, violin and of course dance. She's doing 5 competition pieces this season so her down time is spent practicing in our basement!

I am working on hats, scarves, leg warmers, rhinestoning dance wear and spraypainting props. I love doing this and some of the things I'm doing I'm selling to help pay for Katy's competition costs.

So thought I would be quick and say all is well, just super busy but once I get more time, I'll show pictures of things I'm working on!

Projects galore!

I love doing craft projects whether its for the studio or for my "side business". My lastest projects are spray painting and glittering balloon sticks for Katys small jazz group, knitting a turkey hat and coming up with more knitting ideas. I have a pattern for a hat with ear flaps, one for leg warmers, a scarf and a snowman. I'm also going go make a Husker tie blanket, and Christmas treat bags.

My biggest wish would be that I could take my little side business and do it full time. Maybe one day I will. I love doing crafts and looking on Pinterest for new ideas.

Plus the money I make goes towards Katys dance account!

So projects galore I go!

Violin, Piano, Dance Oh My!

Today Katy started her violin lessons at school. Each Tuesday she'll get pulled out for 30 min for a small group lesson. In a month she'll also go early to school for a large group lesson! She has been so good about practicing her piano, her dance and now her violin. She's disciplined enough to practice on her own and sets her own timer! She loves playing piano, dancing and now violin. She's definitely my fine arts performer!!! My grandma would love to watch and listen to her and I'm sure she's listening up in heaven grinning from ear to ear!

I love this time of year!

Tonight was the first night of The Arabesque.Company team camp. The girls are already forming a team bond which is great! I gave the girls their M&M treats and they loved them! Tonight it was the little Demi Dolls turn! I got Kool Aid packs for each of them and made a tag that said, "You're a Kool Aiddition to the Demi Dolls!" I hope they like it! I love making things for my dance girls!! It's going to be a great year!

Kriz Benefit

I could be at home doing things that need to be done for the week but I'm not. I'm volunteering at the Kriz's Kickin Cancer benefit. Shelly Kriz is battling her second round of cancer and this go is very rare and survival rate is low but she is fighting like a champ! She has a wonderful husband and 6 kids that love her and the outpouring by the community is amazing. Makes me thank God for all the wonderful people in the world helping this family, especially the doctors that are helping Shelly. So spending my Sunday volunteering is more rewarding than what needs to be done at home cause I can always do that, this opportunity is priceless.

Dance team treats

Tonight I'm making dance team treats for the girls for camp next week. We have The Arabesque Company and the Demi Dolls. This is for The Arabesque Company. The Demi Dolls are getting something else. Hope the girls like them!

School has finally started and Katy is now a 4th grader! Where has the time gone! With school starting that means that dance has started back up. Katy had her Nutcracker audition and was given two parts, a baby lamb and a toy soldier! She also is on her dance team and will be doing 5 competition pieces this year. She'll be doing her team piece, a solo, a duet and will be in two small groups; a jazz and tap group. She's also going to start taking piano lessons and will be swimming with a non-competitive swim club. Whew....so busy!

Jason is working away at Duncan and is getting ready for the Market to Market relay in October.

I'm still working at the child development center and am continuing my work as Office Manager at Dance By Design. We are very excited about the opening of the new studio next month. My duties at the studio have grown past the every day things I do. I'm excited to be more involved with the competition teams this year!!!

I'm also working on my side business of knitting, mainly hats right now. I hope to make it grow and begin working on new things!

Fall is in the air, new beginnings for all of us and I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!
